Wedding Program and Vows

Posted by Rowly on May 30th, 2008

Last night, Lisa and I (along with our old but energetic dog Gizmo) went for an hour stroll on a loop of dirt roads from our house. We talked much of the time about the details of wedding program as the sun began to set and the wind increased a little. Only a couple of cars passed us; otherwise, the only sounds were of rivers and birds. It was just the type of evening to talk about Big Things in life.

As I’m leaving on Monday to grade AP US History exams in Louisville next week, we have not so much time left to get everything finalized. We meet with Lisa’s friend Amy (our photographer) tomorrow in West Lebanon for lunch, and on Sunday, we have an appointment with the owners of The Woods.

Last night, we discussed the vows that we want to make, both in unison and separately. Before we knew it, we had arrived home again, and while I took an Amnesty conference call, Lisa used her excellent memory to type up what we had discussed.

Todd told me that the Washington County Probate Court sent him a fancy proclamation granting him to power to officiate at the wedding.

Only three weeks to go…and we’re pulling the event together in good shape!

Responses Due this week!

Posted by Lisa on May 27th, 2008

Hi all! Rowly and I are concentrating on wedding details this week. We are without kids this week and Rowly will be gone in Louisville June 2-11 grading AP exams. He’ll be back with Katherine (yea!) for the summer and just 10 days before the wedding. So we decided we needed to concentrate on details this week.

Sunday we are having a meeting at the Woods. It will be our first time seeing it without snow! We need to give Lisa our final count for the meals, so get your response cards in!

Last night we went over the details of the ceremony and got that in order. We will be workin on music and other details throughout the week. It’s very exciting! Less than 4 weeks away!

I got an iPod!

Posted by Lisa on May 19th, 2008

Last week Rowly gave me my wedding gift early, which was a 4g iPod Nano! I really wanted one, and actually had Rowly’s in my bag for running indoors. So I was thrilled to have my own. It was a great and very thoughtful wedding gift. Plus, we will be using it AT the wedding, our song list will be loaded onto it and played through a borrowed sound system. (A good sound system that belongs to the local Northfield Labor Day committee, which I have joined, but that’s another story…)

I am really looking forward to playing with my iPod, it’s got room for movies and pictures, too. And Rowly had it engraved with “Lisa Brucken” on the back and and “I love you”. Isn’t he so sweet? :-)

Postage

Posted by Lisa on May 13th, 2008

Oops! When we sent the invitations our with the response cards, neither of us thought about the price of postage going up! Those of you who sent your response cards in last week don’t have to worry. After yesterday we all have to add 1cent stamps to our postage. Sorry! We promise the 1 cent output will be made up by the fun and food you’ll have at the wedding!

We picked up our wedding rings on Friday afternoon and those are tucked safely away. Rowly is away in Boston this week, but my brain is moving into full time wedding gear now that my class is over. He likes to call me “Planner Lisa” when I get into this mode. I like to think way ahead sometimes.

We look forward to hearing from you! :-) Lisa

Comments, Photography and Updates

Posted by Lisa on May 9th, 2008

Hi all!

We anxiously and excitedly await your response cards and are curious to see what songs you’ve picked. We also want to hear from you on the blog! So use the comments after each entry to let us know what you think and what you are looking forward to!

Last night I talked to my friend Amy, a college friend who is going to not only do the photography for the ceremony, but do it for the whole weekend. Yea, Amy! You can check out some of her photos as her website, www.ajputnam.com. She’s a folk music and whale watching junkie.

The Cast of Characters page has been updated with some info, including Amy’s and the addition of our Program Distributors. So check it out!

First Response Card Arrived!

Yesterday, Lisa and I received the first response card for the wedding. It was from Stef Shea and her two kids…and so the reception song request list has also begun…

Wedding Rings and Song requests

Posted by Lisa on May 6th, 2008

Hi all! On Saturday Rowly and I were in Montpeiler for the all-you-can-eat pie breakfast that was a fundraiser for Grace’s school…yum! We also did other errands such as finding Katherine a bike for the summer at a bike swap and oh, we bought our wedding bands! It was both very exciting and anti-climactic at the same time. We didn’t want anything fancy, simple white gold, so it was really a matter of finding out what size ring and the width we wanted. The funny thing is that we are actually the same ring size! Gold is apparently going up or has gone up, so the owner honored the prices in the catalogue he had. Although he mentioned a couple times, he should really be charging more. So it seemed prudent to order them there.

A word of explanation about the song requests on the response card…please feel free to put down anything! We are creating playlists on Rowly’s IPod and hooking it up to an awesome sound system for the dancing and entertainment during the BBQ. So we want to hear from you about what you want to hear and/or dance to! It’s a party for everyone just as much as it is a wedding reception. Yes, you can request more than two!

The Actual Date

Posted by Lisa on May 2nd, 2008

You may have noticed that we are getting married on June 21st, which is also the summer solstice. This is a happy accident for us. When we looked ahead at the calendar last fall, we had only a few weekends to chose from given the time that Katherine would be with us.  When we realized that June 21st was a Saturday AND the Summer Solstice, it seemed perfect. June 21st is also my dad’s birthday, so I did check with him about the date and he  nicely said he couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate his birthday.

We’d have a bonfire no matter what the date, but there is symbolism in having a bonfire on the Solistice and celebrating the longest day of the year. Even better!

Married on midsummer with a groups of friends and family celebrating with us! I can’t wait!

Wedding Planning in Full Gear

Posted by Rowly on May 2nd, 2008

Well, last night Lisa and I stuffed the envelopes and today will mail out the invitations. Todd called, and the local Probate Court has been notified about his credentials to perform the ceremony. He is a clergy in Rose Ministries, and this will be his second time officiating at a wedding (with a third planned for later this summer). His wife Cynthia is coming also, and they’re arriving early and bringing bicycles.
